King Trumpet, aka King Oyster or Pleurotus eryngii, are the largest mushroom in the oyster family. These mushrooms are native to Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.
The King Oyster mushroom is a large and round mushroom with a flat-ish brown cap. These mushrooms, when in the wild, grow on Sea Holly plants and Ferula plant species exclusively. Like other mushrooms and fungi in this, it feeds on decaying matter, and actually causes decay. This is known as being saprotropic. These mushrooms are even slightly parasitic to their plant hosts.
The King Oyster mushroom was found in 1872. This mushroom is popular in Asian cuisine and has been cultivated for cooking and eating in the past 30 years.
